The Office of the General Counsel Law Clerk Program offers law students an opportunity to learn about the federal practice of law and litigation in a federal agency setting.  The mission of the OGC is to provide prompt and effective legal advice to Library management upon request and in anticipation of need. The office handles a wide variety of legal issues, including contracts and procurement; labor law and ethics; acquisitions, gifts, and trusts; copyright and intellectual property law; privacy law; lawful use of appropriated and non-appropriated funds; exhibits, events and outreach; digital and online issues including social media; and defense of the Library in administrative and federal court litigation. Law clerks undertake legal research and writing in virtually all these areas of law, and participate in meetings with Library managers and other attorneys.
