W. ROGER LOUIS is Kerr Chair of English History and Culture and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin and an Honorary Fellow of St. Antony’s College, Oxford. He is the author or editor of some 30 books including "Imperialism at Bay" (1977), "The British Empire in the Middle East" (1984) and "Ends of British Imperialism: The Scramble for Empire, Suez, and Decolonization" (2006). He is editor-in-chief of the four-volume project on "The History of Oxford University Press." He was chairman of the U.S. State Department’s Historical Advisory Committee until he resigned on a point of principle in November 2009. A past President of the American Historical Association, he was the Founding Director of the AHA’s National History Center. In 2009, Dr. Louis was selected as Professor of the Year at the University of Texas.
