FIELD DEFINITION AND SCOPE
One or more authentication codes indicating that the record, existing in a national
database, has been reviewed in a specific way. Used for codes associated with
specifically designated authentication agencies. Code from: MARC Authentication Action Code List.
Field 042 is an agency-assigned data element.

INPUT CONVENTIONS
Capitalization - All codes are recorded in lowercase alphabetic characters.
Order of codes - When a
continuing resource which is authenticated by an ISSN Center
moves its place of publication to another country, responsibility for ISSN Network data
elements is assumed by the ISSN Network center in the new country of publication. The
authentication code for the current authenticating agency is added to field 042.

LC, NSDP, LAC, ISSN Canada, or the ISSN UK Centre may consider the item to be a
continuing resource, while one of the others may not. Consequently, the field could
