FIELD DEFINITION AND SCOPE

Used in the United States to support retrospective conversion of Pre-AACR 2 cataloging records. It was never defined in CAN/MARC. This field contains imprint information for sound recordings. It is used only for cataloging of sound recordings created prior to the AACR 2 cataloging rules. It may appear on records created before 1981 or on new retrospective records containing pre-1981 cataloging. For cataloging created since 1980, field 260 (Publication, Distribution, Etc. (Imprint)) is used for the data contained in field 262 subfields $a, $b, $c and field 028 (Publisher Number) is used for the data in field 262 subfields $k and $l.
