Database Names in Present Response

Issue raised by: Larry Dixson, LC

Synopsis:
Must the database name appended to a record in a present response be one of the database names in the search request that caused creation of the result set from which the record is presented?

May the target supply a different name? For example suppose the client searches 'group-db' a group of databases; may the target append to each record the actual database name that the record belongs to?

Response:
The target may supply a different name. There is no requirement imposed by the Z39.50 protocol that a database name appended to a record (the 'name' in NamePlusRecord) be one of the database names in the original search request.
