MARC 21 Concise Bibliographic: Classification and Call Number Fields (05X-08X)
This is an ARCHIVED VERSION of the 2001 electronic

Fields 050-08X fields contain classification and call numbers related to the
item described in the bibliographic record. Identification of the character
sets used in encoding the bibliographic data is also provided for by a field
in this group.
Information for Translators and Other Users
Items highlighted in red indicate changes made
after the 2000 edition of the MARC 21 Concise Formats was published and
are included in the 2001 printed edition of the MARC 21 Concise Formats.
Items highlighted in green indicate
changes made to the online format only. These changes will be corrected in the
2002 printed edition of the MARC 21 Concise Formats (Available late 2002).
A classification or call number that is taken from
Library of Congress Classification or LC Classification Additions and
Changes. The brackets that customarily surround alternate class/call
numbers are not carried in the MARC record; they may be generated based on the
presence of repeated $a subfields.
Indicators

A call number assigned by an organization other than
LC.
- 0 - Item is in LC
May be used by organizations transcribing from LC copy
on which
the call number is neither enclosed within brackets nor preceded
