FIELD DEFINITION AND SCOPE

When field 007/00 contains code f, it contains special coded information about the physical aspects of material that is intended to be read by touch.

One-character alphabetic code that indicates the category of material to which the item belongs is tactile material. Used for material intended to be read by touch. A fill character (|) is not allowed in this position.

06-08 - Braille music format
Three-character code that indicates the braille music format of the item. The music formats are the way measures, sections, parts, and related information, such as words, are presented in relation to each other. Up to three formats may be indicated, left justified in order of predominance. If fewer than three codes are assigned, the codes are left justified and unused positions contain blanks (#).
For example, the music format defines how the music for the right and left hand are sequenced and related to each other in braille. Multiple formats are sometimes employed in the same piece of music. For example, a vocal part and text are in one format and the accompaniment is in another.

a - Bar over bar
Measures are displayed in units called parallels and that the beginning of each part’s measure is vertically aligned with the beginning of the same measure for the other part(s). This code is used chiefly for keyboard music.

c - Line over line
Measures are displayed in parallels, but the measures are not necessarily aligned.

Music is presented in parallels. Open score is similar to bar over bar, but used for ensemble scores.
i - Spanner short form scoring
Chord symbols and melody are presented in paragraphs. It is used chiefly for popular and folk music, but music braille is used for the chord symbols. Also used to indicate that the music is in the Canadian melody chord system.
j - Short form scoring
Words, chord symbols, and melody are presented in parallels, and literary braille is used for the chord symbols. It is used chiefly for popular and folk music. This format is also referred to as the American or BANA short form scoring format.
k - Outline
Music is in the outline format.
l - Vertical score
Parts are combined and written as chords.
n - Not applicable
