FIELD DEFINITION AND SCOPE
Translation of the title proper that is made by the cataloging agency when the
translated title does not appear as a parallel title on the item. For a note, the
introductory phrase Title translated: may be generated based on the field tag
for display.
Translated titles which appear on the piece as a parallel title would be recorded in
field 245 (Title Statement).
GUIDELINES FOR APPLYING CONTENT DESIGNATORS
■ INDICATORS
First Indicator - Title added entry Whether an added entry is to be generated for the title.
0 - No added entry No title added entry is to be generated.
1 - Added entry Title added entry is to be generated.
Second Indicator - Nonfiling characters Number of character positions associated with a definite or indefinite article
(e.g., Le, An) at the beginning of a title that are disregarded in sorting and
filing processes.
0 - No nonfiling characters No initial article character positions are disregarded.
