FIELD DEFINITION AND SCOPE

The general type of intermediation device required to view, play, run, etc., the content of a resource.

$a - Media type term
Term for the category of media used to convey the content of the resource.
$b - Media type code
Code for the category of media used to convey the content of the resource.
$1 - URI
Identifier constructed according to the generic syntax for Uniform Resource Identifiers as specified by the Internet Engineering Task Force. It is a surrogate for a value that would otherwise be recorded in another subfield. The value may or may not be recorded in the other appropriate subfield.
$2 - Source
MARC code that identifies the source of the term or code used to record the media type information. Code from: MARC Code Lists for Relators, Sources, Description Conventions. If more than one source is recorded, the field is repeated.
$3 - Materials specified
Part of the described material to which the field applies.
$6 - Linkage
See description of this subfield in Appendix A: Control Subfields.
$8 - Field link and sequence number
See description of this subfield in Appendix A: Control Subfields.

INPUT CONVENTIONS

Multiple Media types from the same source vocabulary may be recorded in the same field in separate subfields. Terms from separate source vocabularies must be recorded in separate occurrences of the field. Each instance of field 337 must contain only terms in $a subfields or only codes in $b subfields.
