For consistency with other MARC formats, this is modelled on field 270, which already exists in the MARC 21 bibliographic and community information formats. However, only the subfields that are useful for authority information have been defined in the Authority format. The indicators from the field 270 have also not been defined for field 371.
Subfields $s and $t for start and end periods have been added as the address of a person or a corporate body may vary over time.
Distinction between field 371 (Address) and field 370 (Associated place): Field 370 (Associated place) includes information about places associated with a person, a corporate body, a family or a work at the level of the country, the town, etc. Address 371 (Address) is a refinement of the information contained in field 370; it contains information relating to the location of a person or a corporate body, at which they can be found or reached (e.g. printed mail address, e-mail address, etc.).
