Additional information about families that have not been recorded in separate elements previously. These include: type of family, prominent member of the family, and hereditary title.

INDICATORS

SUBFIELD CODES

$a - Type of family
A categorization or generic descriptor for the type of family (RDA 10.3.1.1), e.g Family, Clan, Dynasty, Royal House.
$b - Name of prominent member
A well-known individual who is a member of the family (RDA 10.6.1.1). It is required when needed to distinguish a family from another family with the same name.
$c - Hereditary title
A title of nobility, etc., associated with a family. (RDA 10.7.1.1)
$s - Start period
Starting date associated with a family, such as date of origin or birth.
$d - End period
End date associated with a family, such as date of termination or death.
$u - Uniform Resource Identifier

Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), for example a URL or URN, which provides electronic access data in a standard syntax. This data can be used for automated access to an electronic item using one of the Internet protocols.

In field 376, subfield $u is used to record the location of external or supplemental information accessible electronically.

$v - Source of information
Source where the information recorded in field 376 was found.
$0 - Record control number

$2 - Source of term
Subfield for specifying a controlled vocabulary or source list from which a term is used
$6 - Linkage

INPUT CONVENTIONS

Data recorded in subfield $b (Prominent member of the family) can be encoded following RDA instructions (10.6.1.3.), i.e. in the form of the preferred access point representing the person. It may also be encoded according to other description rules.
