A number of these children are substance abusers, so we offer parents information about drug and alcohol abuse and treatment. Toughlove groups are parent self-help groups giving and getting support in taking action to restore an atmosphere of cooperative living within the family. They do not act as professional counselors; instead they work with and refer members to other agencies in the community dealing with specific aspects of problem behavior.
