A number of these children are substance abusers, so we offer parents information about drug and alcohol abuse and treatment. Toughlove groups are parent self-help groups giving and getting support in taking action to restore an atmosphere of cooperative living within the family. They do not act as professional counselors; instead they work with and refer members to other agencies in the community dealing with specific aspects of problem behavior. This office provides telephone service to assist individuals and families in accessing family support services. These resources may be either public or private organizations. The types of services available may include marriage and family counseling, drug and alcohol counseling, housing assistance, child care and job-training.
