DESCRIPTION: Nigerian author Tope Folarin read selections from his short story “Miracle” and was interviewed by the Library's Angel Batiste on the body of his work and on African contemporary literature. Tope Folarin, winner of the 2013 Caine Prize for African Writing for his short-story entitled “Miracle,” was educated at Morehouse College, and the University of Oxford, where he earned two master’s degrees as a Rhodes Scholar. In 2014 he was named in the Hay Festival’s Africa39 project as one of 39 writers under the age of 40 with the potential and talent to define the trends that will mark the future of literature in sub-Saharan Africa and the diaspora. Folarin is also the recipient of writing fellowships from the Institute for Policy Studies and Callaloo, and he serves on the board of the Hurston/Wright Foundation. He lives and works in Washington, D.C.
